Tamara Anguiano, M.Ed, C-AHC, C-IAYT
Tamara is a NAMA Board Certified Ayurveda Health Counselor ,Certified Yoga Therapist and is the founder of the Aroma Institute. Drawing from both the yoga and ayurveda traditions, her focus is on healing the entire person and the root causes of health concerns rather than just treating symptoms. Both yoga and ayurveda have been instrumental in bringing balance in her life . What she shares with her clients is that we all have the power through simple daily practices to heal ourselves , nourish ourselves and to take good care of ourselves . Rather than seeing herself as a teacher, her desire is that the knowledge and qualites of yoga and ayurveda manifest through her for the benefit of all.
Tamara attended her first yoga class with a friend and it wasn't long before she developed a serious relationship with yoga. In 2006 she became a certified Yoga Teacher because of the gratitude she felt for the shift that yoga made in her life . She has taught at-risk youth, wheel -chair bound seniors, in community outreach programs, apartment communities and most recently for the Kineisiology Department of Stephen F. Austin University along with her private and group classes. Tamara teaches alignment based Hatha yoga postures, breathwork and meditation, focusing on the mind-body connection and the therapeutic aspects of yoga. The student/ teacher paradigm does not exist in Tamara's classes as she believes in a student-centered approach, facilitating the awakening of the student’s connection to his or her own true source of wellness where healing can occur. In her classes, the emphasis is on mindful movement and breath awareness while moving through the asanas. Students can expect to be challenged through slower movement, and are encouraged to listen to their own bodies, modifying poses as necessary.
Her desire to expand her healing practice, led her to become a Yoga Therapist & Ayurveda Practitioner bringing together the most powerful tools for wellness, healing and personal transformation. Studying Integrative Yoga Therapy under Joseph and Lilian Le Page at Kripalu, she went on to study Ayurveda at the American Institute of Vedic Studies , graduated from the San Diego College of Ayurveda where she studied Ayurveda foundations, herbal medicine, nutrition, pulse diagnosis and marma therapy. She then completed extensive practitioner trainings at the California College of Ayurveda, and herbal medicine and holistic nutrition training at the International Integrative Educational Institute. She also studied pulse and marma therapy under the late Vaidya Mishra of the Shaka Vasiya family lineage of Ayurvedic Medicine that can be traced back to the ancient Vedic text, the Puranas. Tamara continues to mentor with leaders in the field of natural healing, enhancing her clinical skills in herbal medicine, aromatherapy, ayurvedic diet and lifestyle practiceS and she continues to find new ways to share her knowledge and passions with others through classes, workshops & therapeutic yoga private consultations.
